Az Intel 10 nm-es gyártási folyamatának késedelme számos hátrányt okozott az Intel összes javasolt 10 nm-es termékcsaládjának, különös tekintettel a nagy teljesítményű Xeon családra. Az Intel gazdaságilag életképes megkezdeni a nagy Xeon processzorok kiskereskedelmét és a harmadik generációs Xeon Scalable-el indított piaca több mint 200 000+ egység eladását kecsegteti, amelyeket a nagyobb ügyfeleknek szállítottak. Az Intel piacra dobja a processzorok teljes sorozatát a 3. generációs Xeon Scalable Ice Lake márkanév alatt, amely a 10 nm-es folyamatra épül. Ezeket a processzorokat, foglalatonként legfeljebb 40 mag, kizárólag egy foglalatos és kettős foglalatú rendszerekhez tervezték, a piacon versenyeznek a többi rendelkezésre álló x86 és Arm opcióval. Ezzel az új generációval az Intel kínálata kettős: először is a generációs növekedés a 2. generációhoz képest, de a megoldás eladása körüli hírek is, nem pedig egyszerűen egy processzor értékesítése.
Az Intel új Ice Lake Xeon Scalable (ICX vagy ICL-SP) üzenetei elterelik az egyszerű egymagos vagy többmagos teljesítményt, ehelyett az egyedülálló szolgáltatáskészlet, például az AVX-512, a DLBoost, a kriptográfiai gyorsítás és a biztonság együtt megfelelő szoftveroptimalizálással vagy párosítva az Intel család speciális termékeivel, mint például az Optane DC Persistent Memory, az Agilex FPGA / SmartNIC vagy a 800-sorozatú Ethernet, jobb teljesítményt és jobb mutatókat kínálnak azok számára, akik ténylegesen vásárolják a rendszereket.
